1972 and 1977 Hearses

August 2011 - April 2013

This is the coach that started my interest in hearses.  She was a total impulse purchase, I still don't know why I bought her!  I saw her on Craigslist and was driving her home less than 2 hours later.

She ran great for 3 days before the timing  chain jumped. After a lengthy repair (that I had to do twice) I got her running again. She was a lot of fun to drive around town and people always have a strong reaction to her. I repainted the roof, sewed curtains and replaced some minor parts.

She ran well until the motor siezed while driving the day before Halloween. I suspect the oil pump failed, but whatever happened really did some damage.  I tried everything but my only option was to  remove and rebuild the engine.  With too many other project cars to work on, I had to part ways with this grim automobile, but got to keep a lot of good memories.

"Gigi"
September 2013 - December 2013

After my first hearse, a good friend of mine came across another one.  I made
plans to see it in a few days, but he went ahead and bought it, gave it to me
and said "pay me back when you sell it".  The car was in very rough shape
cosmetically and mechanically, but the engine and brakes never let me down.
After a few months of fun, I sold her on to a group of Oakland punks and paid my
friend back.
